Maia Sandu stated at the Moldova–Slovakia Business Forum in Bratislava that Moldova is undergoing a period of deep transformation and offers concrete opportunities to the business community. She encouraged Slovak entrepreneurs to invest in the country.
“Today, I am here with a simple message: Moldova is open for business. And the time is now. (…) Investing in Moldova is not a distant gamble, but a concrete opportunity in a market that is rapidly moving closer to the European market. (…) We want to use Slovakia’s experience in developing infrastructure, manufacturing industries, and industrial parks—areas essential for modernizing our economy and creating jobs at home,” Sandu said.
The president emphasized that Moldova has changed significantly in recent years and that authorities are accelerating European integration. She noted that the country has eliminated its dependence on Russian gas, is reforming the justice system, dismantling corrupt networks, and aligning standards and institutions with those of the European Union.
In a challenging European economic context, Sandu highlighted Moldova’s strategic advantages and called for turning strong political dialogue into concrete results such as projects, agreements, and investments. She pointed to shifting supply chains, energy security concerns, and changes in global trade as reasons to act now.
A key element of her speech focused on the EU Growth Plan for Moldova, which will mobilize nearly €2 billion in investments for energy, transport, digital infrastructure, industry, and economic modernization. She stressed that these funds will generate projects, tenders, and contracts, creating direct opportunities for European companies, particularly those from Slovakia.
Sandu reiterated Moldova’s goal of joining the European Union by the end of the decade, noting that early investors will gain a significant advantage.
During the visit, Sandu met with Peter Pellegrini. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral relations and support for Moldova’s EU accession, witnessed the signing of a bilateral agreement in social protection, and are set to hold a joint press conference.
