Roaming with the European Union became liberalized on January 1, 2026, allowing Moldovan citizens traveling abroad to pay national tariffs for mobile communication services.

Authorities estimate that this measure will help Moldovan citizens save about 180 million euros each year. Officials approved the decision to liberalize roaming after the first Moldova European Union Summit, held in Chisinau in July 2025.

During the summit, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa visited the Republic of Moldova. President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and former Prime Minister Dorin Recean hosted the EU officials, who reaffirmed their support for Moldova European integration.

Under the decision adopted in Brussels, Moldova joined the EU Roam Like at Home area. The new tariffs apply to voice calls, text messages, and mobile internet.

The agreement also guarantees the same quality and speed of mobile services as on the domestic market and ensures free access to emergency services, regardless of the country where users are located.
