Screening: Brussels Will Discuss the Final Two Energy Chapters This Summer

Vice Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, announced that Brussels will discuss the last two areas this summer—Chapter 15 (Energy) and Chapter 21 (Trans-European Energy Networks)—on July 10 and 11.

“Under the latest enlargement package, we made significant progress in the energy sector by diversifying our natural gas and electricity supply routes, which helped us reduce our dependence on a single source—Russia,” Cristina Gherasimov said, according to moldova1.md.

Zinaida Mardari, head of public policy coordination and European integration at the Ministry of Energy, explained that implementing these policies will give citizens greater energy security through diversified supply sources.

“For citizens, applying these policies will build resilience against energy crises, lower the risk of interruptions, stabilize energy prices, protect vulnerable consumers, accelerate our transition to green energy, and boost energy efficiency in homes and industry—resulting in lower bills, connections to European power networks, and a modern energy system,” Mardari said.

We recall that on June 25, 2024, Moldova officially began its EU accession negotiations at the first EU-Moldova Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg. On June 26, EU leaders invited the EU Council to open Moldova’s negotiation clusters as soon as it meets the required conditions.

The European Commission said, “The cluster on fundamental elements is ready to open,” and the European Council took this assessment into account.
