Siegfried Muresan: Moldova Remains a Priority for the EU

The Republic of Moldova remains a top priority for the European Union. The MEP Siegfried Muresan affirmed it. He highlighted the EU’s recent decision to provide Moldova with the largest financial support package in its history, €1.9 billion, approved in March.

The European Parliament voted on the EU’s budgetary priorities for 2028–2034. Muresan said, “In my report, I included a clear provision that Moldova, alongside Ukraine, must receive adequate financial and political support throughout the EU accession process.”

Muresan noted that the report also emphasized the need for the EU’s future multiannual budget to support candidate countries and current member states during the enlargement process.

“We want the 2028–2034 EU budget to remain flexible so we can support Moldova not only with pre-accession funds, but also as a full member state, should accession happen during this period,” Mureșan explained. “By welcoming Moldova, Ukraine, and other eligible countries into the EU, we will strengthen the Union as a geopolitical force in response to today’s security challenges.”
