Six Arrested in Chisinau Real Estate Fraud Case Over 25 Million Lei

Six people have been detained in a real estate fraud investigation after buyers of apartments in Chisinau allegedly suffered losses exceeding 25 million lei.

The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office, Main Office, is investigating the case together with police and with support from officers of the State Tax Service’s General Anti-Fraud Directorate. The investigation concerns large-scale fraud, intentional insolvency and money laundering.

According to investigators, since 2019, decision-makers at a Chisinau-based company specialising in real estate construction and sales, together with other individuals, allegedly collected more than 25 million lei from buyers under the pretext of selling apartments in a residential building in the Botanica district.

The suspects allegedly failed to meet their obligations to creditors and took steps to transfer the company’s assets to other parties, deliberately rendering the company insolvent.

On October 28, 2026, law enforcement officers conducted 20 searches at the offices and homes of the individuals under investigation, as well as in their vehicles.

During the searches, officers seized mobile phones, accounting documents, handwritten notes, luxury items, data storage devices and SIM cards. A vehicle valued at 3,705,000 lei was also seized.

The confiscated items and materials will be examined to establish all the circumstances of the case. Six people were detained as part of the operation.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the facts and circumstances. Under the law, the individuals concerned benefit from the presumption of innocence.
