Moldova must accelerate efforts to transpose EU standards into national legislation, MP Marcel Spatari stated following the meeting of the EU–Republic of Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee. Speaking at a press conference alongside MEP Siegfried Muresan, Spatari emphasized that Moldova continues to face hybrid attacks from Russia.

A joint declaration was adopted during the meeting, calling on the members of the European Council to open cluster negotiations at their next session.

“We will intensify cooperation between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the European Parliament, and we hope these meetings will be held every two years. We have been invited to Brussels in the first half of next year,” Spatari added.

For his part, Mureșan said that together with MEPs from Poland, Sweden, Lithuania, and Romania, he came to Chisinau to strengthen cooperation between the European Parliament and Moldova’s Parliament and to discuss the integration roadmap for the next four years.

“We came to tell our colleagues in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova — and especially the citizens — that the European Parliament will continue to support Moldova’s European integration, just as it has in recent years. There is currently a clear majority in the European Parliament in favor of Moldova advancing rapidly and becoming a full EU member state. This is reflected in the consistently positive, overwhelmingly supportive votes on Moldova-related decisions,” Muresan stated.

Discussions also covered the €1.9 billion EU assistance package for Moldova, hybrid threats originating from Russia, and Moldova’s broader role in the European integration process.

According to Mureșan, to help Moldova align with the six negotiation clusters, working groups will be created within the Parliamentary Association Committee. For three of these clusters, negotiations are expected to begin by the end of 2025.
