Speaker Igor Grosu Delivers Key Speech on Regional Security at Black Sea and Balkans Forum in Bucharest

The President of the Moldovan Parliament, Igor Grosu, delivered a keynote speech at the 9th edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, held in Bucharest on May 22–23.

The international conference brought together high-level participants and experts to discuss the most pressing regional security challenges, focusing on the impact of the war in Ukraine and hybrid threats facing Eastern Europe.

As the main speaker in two panels, Igor Grosu addressed the situation in the Transnistrian region and the consequences of Russia’s hybrid war on the Republic of Moldova. He emphasized the importance of unity in the face of external destabilizing efforts.

“Today, at the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, I delivered a simple but essential message: when we are united, we are strong. The presidential elections in Romania and Moldova clearly showed how the Kremlin attempts to divide us – through extremism, manipulation, and destabilization. But our voice was louder. Citizens’ mobilization proved that we choose democracy, peace, and our European path,” said Grosu.

The Speaker also highlighted Moldova’s resilience despite its vulnerabilities.

”Moldova is a small country with a foreign army on its territory. Russia uses the Transnistrian region and the Gagauz autonomy as instruments of destabilization. Yet, for four years, we have managed to maintain peace and order. We have governed responsibly and in good faith, with one goal – to preserve peace in Moldova,” he noted.

Grosu reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to building a secure, democratic, and European future for its citizens.

The Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum, organized by the New Strategy Center with the support of Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Defence, serves as a strategic platform for dialogue on geopolitical risks, defense policies, and regional cooperation. This year’s edition gathered prominent voices from Europe and the wider region to address emerging security challenges in the Black Sea and Balkan areas.
