Starting Today, Energocom Becomes Moldova’s Main Public Service Gas Supplier for the Next Three Years

The National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) appointed Energocom as the public service gas supplier for a three-year term during its public meeting on May 23, 2025. The NAER acted in response to the imminent risk that Moldovagaz would no longer meet its legal obligations after July 31, 2025, due to its failure to unbundle supply and transport activities as required.

To prevent disruptions for about 830,000 household and small business consumers, the NAER previously launched a competitive procedure to select a new supplier. Only two companies entered the competition, but one failed to meet the selection criteria. As a result, the NAER canceled the procedure and directly designated Energocom, following its regulatory framework.

The NAER Board based its decision on Energocom’s experience in the Moldovan gas market, its 2024 turnover exceeding 7 billion lei, its legal and functional separation from other activities, and its capacity to supply the necessary gas volumes.

Energocom will operate under regulated conditions, ensuring transparency and quality standards, and will also provide a last-resort supply to consumers left without a provider.

Within three months of the decision’s entry into force, Energocom must submit regulated cost projections according to NAER’s approved methodology.
