Moldova stood out at the World Hand-to-Hand Combat Championship, recently held in Bursa, Turkey. Moldovan athletes climbed the podium ten times, winning two silver and eight bronze medals in a competition that gathered over 350 fighters from 23 countries, IPN reported.
Petru Buzdugan and Daniel Gorea led the performance, becoming world vice-champions in the 73 kg and 88 kg categories. They brought Moldova to second place in a lesser-known sport, where the country steadily strengthened its presence.
Seven other Moldovan athletes earned bronze medals, including Constantin Chilianu, Gheorghe Necai, Vlad Bragarenco, Nicolae Gisca, Sergiu Corovai, and Sergiu Borislav. Iuliana Oprea was Moldova’s only female athlete to reach the podium, claiming bronze in the 64 kg category.
