The AFP: Vlad Filat sentenced in France to two years in prison for money laundering

A French court sentenced former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat in absentia in early December to two years in prison and fined him 100,000 euros for money laundering in a corruption case, according to a court ruling reviewed by AFP and cited by Agerpres.ro.

The court also sentenced Filat’s former wife to 18 months in prison with a suspended sentence and fined her 150,000 euros. In addition, the court ordered her and Vlad Filat to jointly pay 10,000 euros in moral damages to the Republic of Moldova.
