Fred Duijn, the Dutch ambassador to Moldova, visited Tiraspol. The separatist leader, Vadim Krasnoselski, explained why the Transnistrian authorities rejected the 60 million Euros aid from the European Union during the previous heating season.
The administration in the separatist region said the discussions focused on the negotiation process between Chisinau and Tiraspol. According to the statement, the ambassador discussed the 60 million Euro support. Krasnoselski told him that following the EU’s conditions would have resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs and caused social unrest.
Krasnoselski also stated that the funds could address environmental issues, including building wastewater treatment plants in Moldovan cities that currently discharge waste directly into the Dniester, as well as modernizing similar systems in Transnistria, according to the separatist leader’s press service.
Official sources from the Dutch diplomatic mission have not yet provided details about the meeting. But the embassy’s Facebook page mentions that the ambassador met last week with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri. The embassy described the encounter as a courtesy visit.
