On July 4, the Board of Directors of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) approved the decision to withdraw the natural gas supply license of SA “Moldovagaz” and revoked its public service obligations.
According to the ANRE press release, the latest amendments to the Law on Natural Gas stipulate that, by September 1, 2025, the ANRE—based on a proposal from the Ministry of Energy—will designate a new entity responsible for natural gas supply in the Transnistrian region.
In its most recent communication with the ANRE in July, SA “Moldovagaz” cited its inability to comply with Article 28 of Law No. 108/2016 regarding separation obligations. The company attributed this to a lack of consensus among major shareholders and claimed the issue exceeded the management’s authority.

Despite these challenges, SA “Moldovagaz” expressed its willingness to cooperate with the new designated supplier, SA “Energocom,” and confirmed its readiness to coordinate all necessary organizational, logistical, and operational measures to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to end consumers.
Moldovagaz acknowledged ANRE’s decision to revoke its license and public service responsibilities and confirmed that SA “Energocom” will assume full responsibility for natural gas supply starting September 1, 2025.
