The Bureau for Reintegration Policies (BPR) states that most residents on the left bank of the Nistru River hold Moldovan citizenship, countering claims by the so-called foreign minister of the separatist region, Vitali Ignatiev, who recently described Moldova’s reintegration plan as a “myth.” The Bureau also emphasizes that Transnistrian residents travel to the European Union using biometric passports issued by the authorities in Chisinau.
BPR officials add that economic agents from the Transnistrian region conduct all external commercial transactions using permits issued by Moldovan institutions and through Moldova’s customs control posts.
“Most of these transactions are destined for EU member states, and this is another undeniable reality. These two arguments alone clearly demonstrate that the right bank of the Nistru and the European Union are the most socially and economically attractive destinations — not only for residents of the eastern districts, but also as a strong incentive for the country’s reintegration processes,” the Bureau’s statement notes.
Ignatiev recently claimed that Moldova’s reintegration plan was created solely to help the authorities in Chisinau secure funding from European partners.
