The CEC Flags Financial Irregularities Among Political Parties in 2024 Reports

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has reviewed the 2024 financial reports submitted by political parties and identified several violations of the legal framework governing party financing.

All registered parties, 59, submitted their annual reports electronically via the Financial Control information system, as required by law. However, six parties failed to comply, including:

  • Socialist Party of Moldova
  • United Moldova Party
  • Conservative Party
  • Regions Party of Moldova
  • Political Party Alternative and Salvation Force of Moldova
  • Political Party “CHANCE”

In response, the CEC has suspended the allocation of public funds to the Common Action Party – Civic Congress and the Coalition for Unity and Well-Being, citing their failure to return illegal donations exceeding 155,000 lei.

The Central Electoral Commission warned the National Alternative Movement of errors in its financial report for the second half of 2024 and instructed the party to submit a corrected version.

The Commission suspects misuse of public funds intended to promote women’s and youth participation in politics. The following parties are under scrutiny:

  • Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova – 287,851.56 lei
  • Democracy at Home – 80,828.77 lei
  • National Alternative Movement – 60,149.64 lei
  • League of Cities and Communes – 66,338.41 lei

As a result, the CEC has officially notified the Court of Accounts to audit the use of these funds.
