The Council of the European Union extended the mandate of the EU Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM) for another two years, until May 31, 2027. It allocated a budget of approximately 20 million euros for this period, reports IPN.
The European Council issued a press release stating that the decision follows a strategic evaluation of the mission and includes expanding EUPM’s mandate, with a stronger focus on providing strategic advice to Moldovan authorities in the security sector.
Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said, “Since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, Moldova has faced the greatest challenges to its democratic institutions. Through this mission, we helped Moldova strengthen its cybersecurity and defense against hybrid threats. The EU’s support for a stronger and more resilient Moldova represents an investment in our shared security and Moldova’s European path.”
