The EU grants Moldova €18.9 million and invites the business community to invest in the country

The European Commission has granted the Republic of Moldova additional funding worth €18.9 million through the Reform and Growth Facility, reaffirming the European Union’s strong support for the country’s reform process. At the same time, considering the significant progress made by Moldova in reforms, the European Union is calling on the business community to invest in the country.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated:

“Moldova continues to advance its reform agenda and demonstrates its commitment to the European path. I am pleased to see steady progress in key reform areas, such as energy security in the electricity sector. Investing in Moldova’s economic growth is an investment in European integration. Because a stronger Moldova means a stronger Europe. The European Union remains firmly committed to supporting Moldova at every stage of its path towards EU accession.”

Marta Kos, Commissioner for Enlargement, declared:

“The first tranche from the Reform and Growth Facility for Moldova sends a strong signal about Moldova’s commitment to implementing the reforms needed for economic growth and European integration. At the same time, we encourage investors to invest in Moldova – a country that shows determination and sustained efforts on its path to EU membership.”

The European Commission approved the disbursement after finding that Moldova had fulfilled four reform benchmarks related to the biannual payment schedule under the Reform and Growth Facility. Key achievements include the development of open and competitive markets for electricity and natural gas, as well as the adoption of measures to strengthen energy security.

The €18.9 million adds to the €270 million pre-financing already provided this year. Moldova is set to benefit from up to €1.9 billion in grants and loans under the Facility during 2025–2027.
