The European Parliament urges the inclusion of pre-accession funding for the Republic of Moldova in the EU’s multiannual budget. It has also advocated Moldova’s integration into the EU’s security and defense programs. MEP Dan Barna, Vice President of the Renew Europe group, announced in the context of the Strasbourg vote on the European Commission’s country report on Moldova, IPN reported.
According to Dan Barna, the final report included several proposals from the Renew group, reflecting broad support for Moldova’s European path.
The Parliament also requested that member states increase funding for Moldova through the European Peace Facility.

In addition, the report included a request for the EU to offset the recently suspended USAID funds from the Washington administration, particularly those directed at the energy sector.
“The Republic of Moldova is making substantial progress in its EU accession process, and all pro-European groups in the European legislature support the efforts of the administration in Chisinau,” stated Dan Barna.
He also noted that the country report and related requests to the European Commission represent another concrete step in supporting Moldova following the adoption of the €2 billion Growth Facility earlier this spring.
The European Commission plans to present the first draft of the budget this summer.
