The Foreign Affairs Committee voted today on the European Parliament’s annual report on the Republic of Moldova. The report praises the Moldovan authorities for completing the screening process of legislation for EU accession and opening the first chapters of negotiation in the coming months, according to JurnalTV.
MEP Siegfried Muresan, along with members of the National Liberal Party and the EPP Group in the European Parliament, submitted the amendment that calls for accelerating Moldova’s European integration process.
MEPs urged the European Commission to offer more support to the authorities in Chisinau to help them meet these objectives and speed up the accession process.
“In light of the threats from Russia against the European Union and neighboring countries, the EU must make Moldova’s and Ukraine’s European integration a strategic priority in the coming period,” Muresan stated.

The report also urges the EU to liberalize trade with Moldova.
“This measure replaces the temporary liberalization introduced after Russia started the war in Ukraine. That step allowed Moldovan agricultural products, cut off from eastern markets, to reach the European market. Temporary liberalization boosted Moldovan agricultural exports to the EU, helping local producers. Permanent liberalization would give local producers more predictability and boost investor confidence in Moldova’s economy,” Muresan added.
The European Parliament will vote on the report in its June plenary session.
