The exports from Transnistria to Russia have decreased by 12 times in the last 16 years

Exports from the Transnistrian region to Russia plummeted from €252.9 million in 2008 to just €21.1 million in 2024, according to the Bureau of Reintegration Policies. Meanwhile, trade with the European Union steadily grew, surpassing €320 million in both 2021 and 2022, as reported by IPN.

This shift began after 2007, following the EU’s expansion and the inclusion of the region in the European Union Autonomous Trade Preferences regime in 2008, and later the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) in 2016.

The decline in exports to Russia is largely due to geopolitical tensions, especially after Russia invaded Ukraine. At the same time, imports from the EU surged, reaching nearly €380 million in 2023, while imports from Russia sharply decreased after 2019.
