The Association of Tourism Industry Employers of Moldova has urged Parliament to recognize the civil aviation sector as strategic infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova. The organization submitted the request amid rising fuel prices and their impact on passenger transport costs, tourism, air connectivity, and the country’s competitiveness.
The Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance of Moldova organized public hearings in this context. During the discussions, representatives of the Association stressed that the issue goes beyond prices and directly affects the functioning of the economy, people’s mobility, Moldova’s accessibility as a destination, and its regional competitiveness.
The Association argued that authorities must not analyze fuel market policies in isolation and must assess their broader effects on transport, tourism, civil aviation, and economic flows. In its proposal to Parliament, the organization called for:
– including the impact on tourist and passenger transport in official analyses;
– evaluating effects on the final cost of tourism products and Moldova’s competitiveness;
– examining temporary support measures for affected sectors;
– initiating an inter-institutional analysis to stimulate inbound tourism and strengthen economic competitiveness;
– recognizing civil aviation as strategic infrastructure of national interest, essential for connectivity, attracting tourists and investments, and developing external economic relations.
The Association emphasized that the authorities’ response will represent a strategic intervention in a sector directly linked to Moldova’s competitiveness in tourism, investment, events, and economic partnerships. It also highlighted the need for an integrated vision of mobility, connectivity, and accessibility.
