The Government Crisis Cell: There is a severe shortage of electricity on the left bank, and fan blackouts are being carried out

The government crisis cell announced today that the left bank faces a critical electricity shortage. The MGRES/Cuciurgan power plant and the Dubasari hydropower plant cannot generate enough electricity, prompting authorities to impose hourly power disconnections to prevent network overload.

Authorities divided the region into 16 groups to manage the disconnections. Outages lasted one hour on January 3, increased to three hours on January 4, and will extend to four hours on January 5. They also reduced consumption by turning off street and decorative lighting after 8:00 PM.

The power cuts disrupted life in Copanca and Varnita, areas under constitutional authorities’ control. Central authorities communicate regularly with local mayors to track the situation. Police, medical teams, and emergency services remain on standby to support affected residents.

The MGRES/Cuciurgan coal-fired power plant and the Dubasari hydropower plant supply electricity to the left bank. Public reports indicate MGRES’s coal reserves will last until the end of January.

This energy crisis began on January 1, 2025, when Gazprom stopped delivering natural gas to Moldovagaz. Before the suspension, all gas deliveries went to Tiraspoltransgaz. Since January 1, Transnistrian enterprises have ceased supplying natural gas, district heating, and hot water, intensifying the region’s energy challenges.
