“The Great Hybrid War”: A Documentary on Russia’s Influence in Moldova

A documentary film that exposes the hidden face of the hybrid war aimed at keeping Moldova within the Kremlin’s sphere of influence has premiered on the YouTube channel of the “Tara Mica-Маленькая Страна” project. The film is titled The Great Hybrid War–Великая гибридная, and IPN reports its official premiere takes place today, August 5.

“The war has no declaration, no front line, and no trenches. It can unfold invisibly for decades. Its methods are numerous, but its single goal is to keep Moldova in the Kremlin’s sphere of influence,” say the filmmakers.

The film explores the hybrid war waged against the Republic of Moldova, focusing on the Kremlin’s methods of influence and control. Key topics include electoral corruption, complex political operations orchestrated by Russia, infiltration and manipulation of political and judicial institutions, and the role of the Transnistrian region in this geopolitical game.

The documentary shares testimonies, investigations, and specific examples. The film highlights that Moscow continues to pursue a prolonged strategy aimed at anchoring Moldova in its orbit, even as the country seeks closer ties with Europe.

The film features Alexandru Musteata, Director of the Intelligence and Security Service, and Anatolie Nosatii, Minister of Defense. It also includes Viorel Cernauteanu, Chief of the General Police Inspectorate, along with Government Spokesperson Daniel Voda. It also highlights voices such as Alina Radu, Editor-in-Chief of Ziarul de Garda; journalists Mariuta Nistor and Natalia Zaharescu; and Valeriu Pasa, President of the WatchDog.md community, among others.
