Within the framework of the Partnership Platform for Moldova, meeting in Chisinau, our country signed nine international agreements to accelerate modernization. One of these documents is the loan agreement signed by the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Office for the Implementation of Environmental Projects, on the one hand, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on the other. The financing comes in support of the National Forest Extension and Rehabilitation Program initiated by President Maia Sandu.
“We want a green country, covered with more forests so that we have clean air, more fertile soil, more water in rivers and lakes, and healthy people. A few years ago, we set out with an ambitious project – the rehabilitation and planting of 145 thousand hectares of forests, a project that will benefit not only us but also future generations”, President Maia Sandu emphasized after signing the Financing Agreement for the planting and rehabilitation of degraded lands and forests.
The Head of State noted that today, the EIB joined the authorities’ efforts with an investment of EUR 200 million. “This financing will support the rehabilitation of more than 63 thousand hectares of degraded lands and forests between 2024 and 2028. We will also invest in forestry infrastructure and equipment to manage our forests to European standards and create new forestry jobs. This is a step forward towards a greener and safer future for the Republic of Moldova”, noted President Maia Sandu.
