The MAN leader and Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban delivered a speech during the first session of the 12th legislature of Parliament, urging deputies to act responsibly, cooperate, and remain close to the real needs of citizens.
“The Alternative Bloc faction will be the voice of the people in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and will work solely in the interests of citizens and the state,” Ceban said, stressing that a parliamentary mandate represents a responsibility to those who “trusted us and delegated us to represent their interests.”
He criticized the political class for failing to address citizens’ daily problems:
“People struggle with low pensions, insufficient salaries, huge expenses, rising prices, poor infrastructure, arbitrarily closed schools, and a lack of well-paid jobs. The population has grown poorer, and the number of people on the brink of poverty has increased by 25%.”
Ceban condemned previous governments for lacking economic vision:
“After four years in office, economic development equals zero, while public debt has doubled. The burden falls on each of us, especially those who will form the parliamentary majority.”
He called for cooperation between the government and opposition:
“We are a small country. People want one thing — for us to join efforts and create better conditions at home. Laws must serve every citizen, not the narrow interests of a party.”
Ceban urged deputies to vote according to conscience rather than party orders, warning of “political, financial, and administrative pressures” on mayors and local authorities.
“The Alternative Bloc faction will advocate for depoliticization of state institutions, an end to pressures, and a real fight against corruption, not its mere imitation. The Republic of Moldova must remain a democratic country where the law applies equally to all,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of local administrations, Ceban called on the government and Parliament to provide concrete support for territorial authorities:
“Public administrations face numerous challenges but continue to serve citizens’ interests. I call for responsibility, professionalism, and political maturity.”
In conclusion, Ceban delivered a message of unity and pragmatism:
“Do not forget where you started and whom you represent. Europe must be built here, at home, every day — not through flyers, but through concrete actions for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.”
The Alternative Bloc will hold eight seats in Parliament, with Gaik Vartanean serving as the faction’s chairman.
