The National Alternative Movement (MAN) Party organized a flashmob in front of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on Thursday, February 12, as part of the “You Pay!” campaign, focused on energy tariffs and their impact on households and the business environment.

Under the slogan “This is not what people voted for!”, party representatives stated that the current level of electricity and heating tariffs “has become an unbearable burden for thousands of families in the Republic of Moldova.”

According to the MAN, an increasing number of citizens are unable to fully pay their utility bills and are being forced “to cut essential expenses or accumulate debts in order to avoid disconnections.”

The party also claims that high tariffs are affecting the business sector. “Unpredictable energy costs put pressure on entrepreneurs, reduce investment capacity, block expansion plans, and create real risks of business closures,” the MAN representatives said. They argue that these effects may lead to “higher prices for consumers, stagnant wages, and a slowdown in economic activity.”

During the demonstration, MPs and municipal councilors delivered speeches. At the end of the event, participants symbolically placed utility bills into a ballot box set up in front of Parliament. According to the MAN, the gesture was meant to signal that the current situation “contradicts the expectations expressed by citizens in the elections” and that responsibility for the adopted decisions “must be politically assumed.”

The party calls for the retroactive application of tariff reductions, the recalculation of bills for citizens, and the identification of sustainable solutions to ensure stability and predictability in the energy sector. The MAN maintains that protecting the population and the economy “must be a real priority, not just a declarative promise.”
