Masha Kinash, the owner of a Pilates studio in Chisinau, announced that she successfully climbed Mount Everest, where she raised the national flag of the Republic of Moldova.

“Hooray! The flag of the Republic of Moldova is on Everest! Although it was very, very difficult, it was possible,” she wrote in a post published after the expedition.

She said that the day of the ascent saw a record number of climbers on the route — 274 ascents in a single day — which caused heavy congestion and extended the time spent in the so-called “death zone” to around 24 hours, about twice as long as what is usually considered normal under such conditions.

According to her Facebook post, she reached the summit on May 21 at 11:37 a.m. Nepal time, when she arrived at the highest point on Earth and raised the Moldovan flag.

She also stated that the expedition involved major difficulties and several dangerous situations along the route, but that she managed to complete the ascent safely. Kinash thanked supporters for their messages and encouragement and said she would later share more details about the expedition.
