The Minister of Environment, Sergiu Lazarencu, is undertaking an official visit to Ukraine. According to a press release issued on the evening of August 15, 2024, the visit began in Odesa, where the Moldovan minister, together with his Ukrainian counterpart, Ruslan Strelets, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, signed the Agreement on the Implementation of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context.
Through this convention, Moldova and Ukraine commit to taking all necessary measures to prevent, reduce, and minimize the potential cross-border environmental impact. This joint commitment aims to ensure the effective implementation of sustainable and healthy environmental policies for future generations.

“The brutal and unjust war waged by Russia against Ukraine results in loss of human lives impacts the economy, and affects the environment. The negative effects of environmental destruction extend beyond borders. We will work together to mitigate the adverse environmental impacts and ensure that all social, economic, and infrastructure projects will develop without compromising nature,” stated the Minister of Environment, Sergiu Lazarencu.
Throughout the day, Minister Lazarencu visited several sites affected by Russian aggression. The official visit will continue in Kyiv.
