The Parliament Adopts Declaration on Moldova’s Accession to the European Union

On Thursday, July 10, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the Declaration on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. This symbolic and strategic document reaffirms the authorities’ firm commitment to the country’s European path. MOLDPRES reports that the parliamentary opposition boycotted the final plenary session.

A group of deputies from the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) faction introduced the legislative initiative, and Vice President Doina Gherman read the document in plenary.

The Declaration highlights the significant progress Moldova has made in its European integration: winning candidate status in 2022, launching accession negotiations in 2024, and deepening bilateral ties with the European Union—most recently at the first Moldova–EU Summit in Chisinau in July 2025.

The deputies called on all political forces, state institutions, and civil society to unite behind this national goal and actively work toward its achievement.

The document underscores that Moldova’s partnership with the EU has delivered genuine benefits to citizens—more economic opportunities, community support, increased mobility, security, and social protection—even amid a challenging regional context.

It also expresses hope that Moldova will meet the necessary conditions to start chapter-by-chapter negotiations by the end of 2025.

The deputies appealed to the next legislature, elected on September 28, 2025, to keep Moldova firmly on its European course and to ensure continuity and acceleration of reforms. They urged the government to guarantee free and fair elections, prevent external interference, and crack down on electoral corruption.

“We close the eleventh legislature with the deep conviction that, by the end of this decade, through unity, resolve, and perseverance, the Republic of Moldova will become an EU member state—a free and dignified country contributing to peace, democracy, and security across the continent,” the document reads.

The Parliament officially ends its term on July 11 but will remain in session until the new legislature, elected on September 28, 2025, takes office.
