Alexandru Munteanu, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) candidate for prime minister, stated that Moldova remains a partner of interest for the United States, despite Washington’s global priorities. He referred to a recent $130 million grant that the American Government provided for the construction of the Straseno–Gutinas power line, just a week before the parliamentary elections.

“Currently, the United States focuses its attention on resolving global wars, but I don’t believe Moldova lacks economic importance. The $130 million grant for Moldova is not a small amount, especially at a time when American authorities are promoting optimizations and cuts in personnel expenses,” Munteanu said on TV8.

The PAS candidate confirmed that he holds citizenship of the United States, Moldova, and Romania, noting that he obtained U.S. citizenship in 2006 after living in America with his family for several years.

“The American economy impressed me; I like that country. My two sons work there. Holding Moldovan citizenship does not contradict U.S. law. I continue to pay taxes regardless of where I am,” he explained.

Referring to his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, held in Chisinau on Moldova’s Independence Day, Munteanu said he attended the event as President of the French Alliance, not as a political representative.

“I had the opportunity to speak with Emmanuel Macron in French, but we did not discuss politics. Our dialogue focused on the future of Moldova and the region,” Munteanu said.

Outlining his priorities as future prime minister, Munteanu emphasized that economic development and investment attraction would top his agenda, alongside support for vulnerable groups, quality education, and access to modern medical services.
