The PAS Deputy: Plahotniuc was detained because of his stupidity. It is not the merit of Moldovan institutions

The PAS deputy Adrian Cheptonar stated on the Rezoomat show that the detention of former Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plahotniuc at an airport in Athens does not represent a success for Moldova’s rule of law institutions.

According to Cheptonar, Greek authorities detained Plahotniuc for identity fraud, and only later discovered the international arrest warrants issued against him.

“Plahotniuc was not arrested based on an arrest warrant from Moldova’s Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. He was detained for falsifying documents and for using a false identity. Greek authorities uncovered the warrants during the identification process,” Cheptonar explained.

The deputy criticized claims suggesting that Moldovan authorities or the ruling PAS party deserve credit for the arrest.

“Who said it’s PAS’s merit? We shouldn’t claim credit for something we didn’t do. Plahotniuc’s detention was neither voluntary nor the result of efforts by Moldovan law enforcement. It was simply his foolishness — he believed himself to be invincible and untouchable,” Cheptonar added.
