The PAS parliamentary faction has registered a new draft law that expands the criteria for applying the Law on the Repatriation of Goods, aiming to facilitate the return of Moldovan citizens from the diaspora and allow them to bring their belongings into the country, especially their cars.

The initiative expands the eligibility criteria for repatriated vehicles as follows:

• it increases the maximum permitted age of the car from 9 to 12 years;

• it raises the value limit from 400,000 to 550,000 lei;

• it increases the permitted engine capacity from 2500 cm³ to 3000 cm³.

Another provision requires the person repatriating their goods to sign a declaration of personal responsibility, committing to remain in the Republic of Moldova for three years as a resident.

After Parliament adopts the law, the Government will simplify the repatriation procedure for household goods as well. The PAS MP Valeriu Robu urges diaspora citizens to take advantage of this opportunity to return home.

“Now is a good opportunity to come home, to invest, and to lend a hand in building a Moldova that our generation never had. We left a poverty-stricken Moldova, but today we have the chance to return and build a Moldova where you would actually want to live,” he said.

The PAS MP Alic Baraboi added that the initiative fulfills an electoral commitment. According to him, around 400 citizens have already benefited from the provisions of the current law, and the new criteria will expand this number.

“We are sending a clear message: we want our citizens abroad to be able to return home and to feel that they are welcome here,” Baraboi stated.
