Moldova does not forget its heroes who fell for independence, the Bureau for Reintegration Policies said after Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski called on Chisinau to provide a legal qualification of the events of 1992. Authorities in Chisinau reiterated their commitment to a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.

The bureau stressed that a peaceful resolution, with full respect for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, remains a fundamental principle in efforts to resolve the conflict. At the same time, officials emphasized that the state honors the memory of those who died in the 1992 armed conflict while defending Moldova’s territorial integrity and independence, a conflict triggered by external interference.

“Their memory is preserved with gratitude, and the state is making every effort to ensure that the horrors of war are never repeated,” the Bureau for Reintegration Policies stated in a response sent at the request of the Realitatea editorial office.

Vadim Krasnoselski has asked Chisinau to explain the events of 1992, arguing that the constitutional authorities should provide a legal assessment of the war on the Dniester River. While outlining objectives for the so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tiraspol, he also called for the resumption of negotiations with Chisinau and for the creation of an agenda that he claims should serve the interests of the population on both banks of the Dniester.
