The Republic of Moldova is officially participating for the first time in La Biennale di Venezia, widely considered the world’s largest and most important contemporary art event. Cristian Jardan announced the news from Venice.

Moldova is participating with the project In the Thousand and Second Night, created by Pavel Braila. The work explores themes such as peace, memory, technology, and solidarity.

The exhibition will welcome visitors from May 7 to November 26, 2026. Organizers are hosting the Moldovan pavilion at Spazio Santa Veneranda inside Chiesa dei Santi Geremia e Lucia in the Cannaregio district.

“It is a moment of pride for the Republic of Moldova and an opportunity to promote our artists and our art around the world,” Cristian Jardan said.

Jardan also announced that he and the culture ministers of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia signed a joint declaration condemning the participation of the Russian Federation in the Venice Biennale.

“It is a message of solidarity with Ukraine, its people, and the artists who continue to create while their country goes through a brutal war. Culture cannot be separated from the reality in which we live. When one state attacks another country and destroys lives, heritage, memory, and identity, the international community cannot treat its presence on major cultural stages as normal. The Republic of Moldova joins this common appeal and reaffirms its support for Ukraine, its freedom, and its right to defend its culture, memory, and dignity,” the Minister of Culture stated.

Founded in 1895 in Venice, La Biennale di Venezia is one of the world’s most prestigious cultural events. The event includes several sections, including the International Art Exhibition, the Architecture Biennale, the Film Festival, and other programs dedicated to contemporary arts.

The Ministry of Culture of Moldova and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova are supporting Moldova’s participation in the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia with a budget of 5 million lei.
