Strengthening the capacity of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Commission for European Integration to manage draft laws marked with the EU label and harmonize national legislation with European rules was the main topic discussed at an event held at the Moldovan Parliament. The meeting took place at the midpoint of the implementation of the Twinning project “Strengthening the capacities of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and its role in the European Union accession process.”

Participants also discussed parliamentary oversight procedures and tools that could increase citizen involvement in public consultations.

The event brought together the chair of the Commission for European Integration, MP Marcel Spatari, members of the commission, the leadership and representatives of the Parliament Secretariat, as well as representatives of the parliaments of Romania, Greece, Italy, Hungary and Austria, along with the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

“It is important for us to learn from the experience of our partners because we have a lot of work ahead. This year alone, more than 300 draft laws are planned to harmonize national legislation with EU legislation,” Spatari said.

International partners expressed support for Moldova’s European path and stressed that the role of national parliaments is a key element of a united Europe.

“The event organized at the midpoint of implementation is dedicated to the Commission for European Integration, which highlights the importance of its work for the Parliament and for the Republic of Moldova as a whole in the European integration process,” said Vasilios Svolopoulos.

The Twinning project is funded by the European Union and implemented by a consortium led by the Hellenic Parliament, in partnership with the parliaments of Romania, Italy, Hungary and Austria. The initiative runs from February 3, 2025 to February 2, 2027 and aims to strengthen the role of the Moldovan Parliament in the country’s accession process to the European Union.
