The sanitation tax may not appear on the list of local taxes in Chisinau this year. Mayor Ion Ceban proposed that municipal councilors vote on the local taxes at the March 12 meeting without including it.
The decision follows months of disputes that blocked the approval of the municipal budget.
“If all these complaints around City Hall focus on this subject, we invite you to vote for the local taxes without the sanitation tax,” Ceban said during the operational meeting of municipal services.
The mayor acknowledged that the tax is necessary but chose to avoid another deadlock. Officials have already prepared the documentation for the meeting.
This is not the first time authorities have removed the sanitation tax. Last year, the Chisinau Municipal Council canceled it due to technical errors and legislative changes that could have led residents to pay it twice.
