The separatist leader wants talks with Sandu: Serebrian reveals who from Chisinau should engage with Krasnoselski

According to Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, a meeting between the separatist leader and Maia Sandu is not appropriate at this time. The official noted that, in the past, Igor Smirnov, Evgheni Shevchuk, and Vadim Krasnoselski met with the head of state. Still, typically, in sensitive situations, the dialogue was handled by Moldova’s prime ministers.

The statement came after Krasnoselski claimed that Sandu might not be aware of what is happening on the left bank of the Dniester and expressed his desire to meet with the president. Serebrian remarked that he did not see what such a meeting would accomplish.

“I do not see the necessity for a public meeting between the head of state and Mr. Krasnoselski because I don’t know what it would achieve. We observe that, at the level of working groups and the 1+1 format, Tiraspol remains opaque. The goal of these actions is likely something else. It is difficult for us to fully understand Tiraspol’s resistance to Chisinau’s proposals for concrete discussions on humanitarian aid.

What we want now is not the protocol pleasure of sharing a coffee at the same table in front of television cameras from both sides of the Dniester. We want the 350,000 citizens on the left bank of the Dniester not to be left in the cold, not to face issues with medical institutions, and not to experience problems with public transportation. These are issues we can address ourselves,” Serebrian commented.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean disclosed that he had spoken with Vadim Krasnoselski, who recently returned from an unannounced visit to Moscow. According to Recean, Russian officials tried to convince the separatist leader that Chisinau’s administration was responsible for the energy crisis in Transnistria.
