Starting January 1, 2025, the single childbirth allowance will increase to 21,350 lei. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection announced that this adjustment aligns with the Government’s Program of Activity, “Prosperous, Safe, European Moldova,” which aims to strengthen family support and reduce child poverty.
According to the National Social Insurance House estimates, approximately 33,054 children will benefit from this allowance in 2025. To fund the payments, the Government has allocated about 710 million lei, a sum included in the draft State Budget Law for 2025.
The Government grants a one-time childbirth allowance for each child born alive, including twins, provided parents register the child with the Public Services Agency. The Government sets the allowance annually, based on the monetary value of the minimum basket of goods necessary for the birth of a child, calculated for the year preceding the child’s birth.

Families with children also receive additional support, including a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei for all children under two years old, regardless of the parent’s insurance status. In 2025, this allowance will benefit 72,000 children. Another support measure is the monthly allowance for raising a child under three years old, with the amount determined based on the parent’s income.
Beyond financial aid, the Government continues to implement initiatives to support families. These include expanding public crèche and alternative childcare services, offering more flexible paternity and childcare leave, and enhancing support services for families in difficult or at-risk situations.
The Government last increased the childbirth allowance in December 2023, raising the amount to 20,000 lei.
