British authorities will recognize Moldovan driving permits following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two governments. On July 9, the Moldovan Cabinet will approve the document and authorize the country’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ruslan Bolbocean, to sign it on behalf of Moldova. The agreement will allow for the reciprocal conversion of driving permits between the two countries.
The issue has been under discussion since at least the fall of 2024, when Moldova’s diplomatic mission in London raised the matter with British officials.
Currently, Moldova has signed bilateral agreements for mutual recognition with Israel, Turkey, Albania, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, and Greece. The agreement with France will enter into force soon. Additionally, Moldova and Germany have signed a joint declaration of intent regarding permit recognition; however, German authorities require Moldovan citizens to pass a practical driving exam before exchanging their licenses.
