The United States has officially launched the global health security program “Ending Pandemics and Controlling Epidemics” (EpiC) in the Republic of Moldova, providing $3.5 million in external assistance to support the initiative.
The program strengthens Moldova’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond rapidly to infectious disease threats, including those caused by antimicrobial resistance. It reinforces public health infrastructure and establishes effective mechanisms to manage epidemiological risks.
EpiC focuses on three main areas:
- Digital surveillance: Implementing modern systems to monitor pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and antibiotic consumption in real time.
- Strengthening infection prevention and control in hospitals: Operating multidisciplinary committees and providing ongoing training for medical staff.
- Public awareness and engagement: Reducing inappropriate antibiotic use and promoting a culture of collective responsibility.
In Moldova, EpiC collaborates with regional and local organizations, offering specialized technical assistance at all levels of the health system. The project improves the country’s preparedness to prevent and manage biological risks and strengthens the resilience of Moldova’s public health system.
