The parliamentary faction of the Party of Communists and Socialists requested that Education Minister Dan Perciun be heard in Parliament over the condition and availability of student dormitories. The initiative failed to receive the required number of votes.
Communist MP Adrian Domentiuc raised the issue during the Parliament’s plenary session on September 3.
“The academic year has started, but a large number of student dormitories are in a disastrous condition, and many students have been left without accommodation. I believe, and the Communist Party faction believes, that the ministry must take action on this matter. The Communist Party faction is requesting that Minister Perciun be heard so that we can clarify this issue,” Domentiuc said.
Socialist MP Vladimir Odnostalko later claimed that migrant workers had been accommodated in a dormitory belonging to the former Agrarian University, while Moldovan students had allegedly been left without places.
“In the dormitory of the former Agrarian University, which you shut down, there are hundreds and hundreds of migrant workers for whom places have been found. (…) But there are no places for our future specialists, our current students,” Odnostalko said.
Almost two months ago, Socialist MP Vladislav Batrîncea claimed that, according to information available to him, the dormitories on Petricani Street were no longer housing Moldovan students or teaching staff, but “more than 400 migrants from South Asia.”
