Tiraspol blocks the 1+1 meeting again, refusing any discussion format proposed by Chisinau

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies regrets that Tiraspol blocked the 1+1 format meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 3. “Although Tiraspol’s political representative claims that numerous issues have accumulated on the negotiation agenda in recent months, he informed us today that he rejects both a meeting at the OSCE Mission office in Chisinau and a videoconference, insisting on holding the talks in Bender,” the press release states.

The Security Zone recalls that Tiraspol also thwarted a previous attempt to convene a 1+1 meeting in January during the energy crisis. They refused to travel to Chisinau for discussions, citing security concerns, even though the separatist leader traveled to Moscow through Chisinau International Airport without issues.

At the time, Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian stated that, given the region’s dire situation, Ignatiev should have agreed to meet anywhere—even in Vinnytsia—to show genuine willingness to address the concerns of residents on the left bank of the Nistru.

Ukrainian authorities had summoned Ignatiev to Vinnytsia for questioning in a treason investigation.

The last face-to-face meeting between negotiators in the conflict resolution process was in November.
