Tiraspol Reimposes Economic State of Emergency Despite Legal Limitations

Tiraspol has reintroduced a state of emergency in the economy despite the previous six-month period expiring on June 8 and the so-called Supreme Soviet formally concluding its session on June 9. This move comes even though a separate “law” had already been adopted to provide temporary measures for June. According to IPN, the Supreme Soviet approved the new state of emergency during an extraordinary session on June 11.

The prior state of emergency in the Transnistrian region lasted from December 11, 2024, to June 8, 2025—the maximum term allowed under local legislation. As the law prohibited extending this period, the regional administration issued a law on June 6, introducing temporary economic measures effective from June 9 to June 30.

These temporary provisions include a ban on disconnections from public utilities, canceling fines and penalties for late payments, and certain financial relief measures in the budgetary and labor sectors.

Despite the Supreme Soviet officially ending its unprecedented nine-month session on June 9, it received a decree on June 10 proposing a new state of emergency. Lawmakers approved the measure the following day in an extraordinary meeting. As with the previous declaration, the reason remains the continued disruption in gas supply.
