The Republic of Moldova must secure its electricity consumption needs, as Ukraine is also purchasing electricity from Romania, and there is a market shortage, according to expert Sergiu Tofilat. At the same time, he noted that import capacities are limited.
More specifically, the issue lies in supply limitations, as Romania can sell only a certain volume of electricity. Additionally, there is a maximum amount that can be imported to prevent system overload, explained the former member of Moldovagaz’s Supervisory Board during the ”Realitatea te Priveste” show on RLIVE TV.

“As a country, we must think about our energy security and how we ensure electricity consumption. We need to build new CHP plants and invest in renewable energy generation,” Tofilat stated.
Although the Chisinau-Vulcanesti power line will provide greater energy independence, it will not reduce the shortage in the Romanian market. Therefore, the authorities in Chisinau must find solutions to secure the country’s electricity supply.
