If you want to explore some tourist spots in Moldova this weekend, here are a few destinations to discover.

5. Cultural Natural Reserve “Orheiul Vechi” – located 50 km from Chisinau. The location will surprise you with its picturesque scenery. It also traces of history left from the Geto-Dacian civilization, cave monasteries, and caves dug into the rocks. Also, on the territory of the “Orheiul-Vechi” Reserve, you can discover Butuceni and the authentic houses preserved by the locals. Some of them are guesthouses now, where every tourist is welcome to taste traditional dishes, learn about the history of the place, and take part in bread and pie-baking workshops.

    4. Naslavcea – located 230 km from Chisinau, it is the extreme northern point of the Republic of Moldova, in the Ocnita district, the place where on the Dniester from the height of a bird’s flight you can see the shape of a heart outlined from the islands on the river. The top of the hill in the village of Naslavcea is a favorite spot for tourists who choose to retreat into nature, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Some stay there camping to enjoy the sunrise, feast their eyes and souls, and capture the most beautiful photos. In addition to comfortable footwear, water, and food, tourists need to bring their identity documents, as Naslavcea is a town located in the border area with Ukraine.

    3. Fetesti – Moldova’s Little Helvetia – is the village in the Edinet region, 220 km from Chisinau, which will surely conquer you. The high white stone cliffs that rise with peaks aspiring to touch the clouds gave the area on the hill at the village entrance its name. Large stones scatter here and there, and the Draghistea stream bears its name from love. The gorge of Fetesti is 250 meters wide, and there are also rocky caves in the steep high banks.

    2. The Valeni village and Lake Beleu are in the Lower Prutul Biosphere Reserve. The south of Moldova will impress you as much as the north. The 628-hectare Lake Beleu, about 200 km from Chisinau, is home to hundreds of species of birds, fish, animals, and plants, including those listed in the Red Book of Moldova, and if you’re lucky, you may encounter them too. Lake Beleu is a small Danube delta with lots of water and vegetation. A special phenomenon is when several thousand pelicans come to the lake for 2-3 weeks. Beleu is near the village of Valeni. Last autumn, the World Tourism Organization designated Valeni as one of the world’s most attractive tourist villages and awarded it the title of “Best Tourism Village.” The village was selected from over 260 applications from 60 countries. It stood out for its cultural heritage, natural resources, promotion of values through rural life, and commitment to sustainability. Also from Valeni is the legendary grandmother Lidia Bejenaru, who drummed with Zdob and Zdub on the Eurovision stage.

    1. Castel Mimi. Tourists coming to the Republic of Moldova should visit the only wine castle in our country, which is over 130 years old. It is an architectural pearl built by Italian specialists inspired by the architecture of French Chateaux, which will impress you with its beauty and grandeur. Situated only 35 km from Chisinau, Castel Mimi is the only tourist destination in the Republic of Moldova among the top 15 most beautiful wineries worldwide. Tourists who come to the castle can visit the ancient cellars, taste the best wines awarded in world competitions, savor fine dining in the castle’s restaurant, and relax in peace and comfort at the recently opened hotel – the first zero-emission hotel in Moldova that consumes no electricity at all, being powered entirely by the sun. It is the place to learn about the history, discover the traditions of Moldovan winemaking, and take memorable photos. World leaders at the EPC Summit, hosted by Castel Mimi in the summer of 2023, highly appreciated the beauty of the place and the excellence of the wines and service.
