Two traffic police officers in Singerei district have died after being struck by a car during a roadside mission, Moldova’s National Police announced.
The officers, Mihail Chiriac (29) and Nicolae Dragan (25), had been critically injured after a Volkswagen hit them while they were standing near a properly parked police vehicle with its emergency lights activated.
Doctors attempted to save both officers, but they later died in hospital from severe trauma.
The National Police expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the victims.
“We extend our sincere condolences and our deepest sympathy to the grieving families of our colleagues, their relatives, and all those who knew and appreciated them. We stand with you in these moments of profound sorrow. May God rest them in peace,” the institution said.
National Police Chief Viorel Cernauțeanu said the driver is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel. Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
