Every second resident of the Transnistrian region supports the reintegration of the two banks of the Nistru River, while residents now view closer ties with the right bank as equally important as relations with the Russian Federation for the first time in the past 30 years.
The media platform Zona de Securitate and WatchDog.MD presented the findings on Tuesday, May 26. The study examined how residents of the Transnistrian region perceive Moldova’s reintegration and geopolitical orientation.
According to the study, support for reintegration increased by 8% over the past two years. A growing number of respondents also said they feel tired of the region’s unrecognized status. Participants identified economic problems and uncertainty about the future as their main concerns.
The study found that most respondents avoid openly expressing political opinions because they fear for their safety. At the same time, around 30% of participants identified the Russian Federation as a potential threat.
Researchers conducted the study between February and April 2026 in the five districts on the left bank of the Nistru River. They surveyed 419 people online and verified the results through six focus group discussions.
