Transnistria: Separatist Leaders Extend Economic State of Emergency by 30 Days

According to local media, the separatist leaders extended the state of emergency in the economy by 30 days. The measure will remain in effect until May 9, inclusive.

On December 11, 2024, the authorities in the region east of the Dniester declared a state of emergency in the economy. Among the measures they implemented was suspending electricity sales to the right bank of the river if the separatist zone ran out of gas.

This situation arose after Gazprom refused to supply gas via an alternative route following the expiration of the blue fuel transit contract through Ukraine on January 1, 2025. According to officials in Chisinau, gas deliveries remain possible through the TurkStream pipeline, bypassing the neighboring country.

Later, the so-called Supreme Soviet, convened by separatist leader Vadim Krasnoselski, extended the measure several times.
