A drone attack took place overnight on September 8–9 near Moldova’s border with Ukraine, in the area of the Tudora–Starokazachie border crossing.
The attack damaged infrastructure at the Ukrainian border crossing and left two people dead and two others injured, according to Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service.
Moldova’s Border Police said the attack occurred between 11:35 p.m. and 12:05 a.m. A drone struck the Starokazachie border crossing, while two other unmanned aerial vehicles crashed nearby. All three drones fell on Ukrainian territory.
At 11:35 p.m., people at the border crossing were evacuated. About five minutes later, a mobile Border Police patrol heard four explosions and observed flashes from explosions on Ukrainian territory. An air raid alert was in effect in Ukraine at the time.
Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service later reported that two civilians had been killed and two others injured. The nationalities of the victims have not yet been established.
Following the incident, operations at the Tudora–Starokazachie border crossing were suspended. The Ukrainian side of the crossing remains closed.
Moldova’s Border Police said no drone fragments or other objects posing a danger to the public have been found on Moldovan territory.
Moldovan authorities continue to monitor the situation and remain in contact with their Ukrainian counterparts.
People are urged not to approach any potential drone fragments, ammunition or unidentified objects and to immediately notify the authorities by calling the emergency number 112.
