Vadim Krasnoselski, the separatist leader in Tiraspol, said that energy security remains the main concern for residents of the Transnistrian region ahead of the New Year, amid fears of a repeat of the crisis experienced on January 1, 2025.

Krasnoselski said that despite existing risks, the Tiraspol administration, together with the Russian Federation, is doing everything possible to prevent a similar situation on January 1, 2026. He stated that he closely monitors and analyzes all processes related to the energy sector and expressed confidence that last year’s crisis will not recur.

He also referred to the suspension of gas transit through Ukraine, arguing that direct dialogue and more effective negotiations could have avoided or reduced some of the negative consequences for the region.

At the same time, Krasnoselski praised the position of Moldova’s constitutional authorities, saying they showed understanding toward the situation on the left bank of the Nistru River and helped overcome difficulties. He said Moldova did not create obstacles to gas deliveries and acknowledged a shared understanding that the left bank cannot remain without gas and energy resources.

As an example of cooperation, he cited the work of the economic working group within the “5+2” negotiation format, which he said helped ensure a weak but constant stability in the region. Krasnoselski stated that Transnistria currently has both natural gas and electricity.

Looking ahead, he expressed optimism and said the energy situation in the region will develop favorably in the coming period.
