Veaceslav Platon Released on Bail in the UK; Extradition Decision Expected in Late November

A UK court has released Veaceslav Platon on bail, with a decision on his extradition to Moldova expected between November 24 and 28, 2025. British authorities have merged Moldova’s two extradition requests into a single case and are currently reviewing it.

According to Moldova’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), authorities detained Platon in the UK in March 2025 after Moldova filed an extradition request on September 25, 2024. The PG requested a preventive arrest to secure the extradition process.

Platon challenged his detention twice and requested bail, but both attempts were initially denied. After his second detention on May 27, 2025, related to two additional criminal cases, the Moldovan Ministry of Justice filed a second extradition request under procedural criminal law.

British courts issued a second arrest warrant, and Platon’s legal team again petitioned for bail. While the court denied the first attempt, it approved the second on July 23, releasing him on bail set at £330,000. The court imposed electronic monitoring as part of the conditions.

The PG stressed that the bail decision only modifies the preventive measure during the extradition review and does not affect the extradition process itself.

The UK authorities detained Platon on March 13, 2025. In Moldova, he faces investigation in the “Laundromat” case for allegedly leading a criminal group, influencing judicial decisions, abusing public office, using false documents, and laundering large sums through a criminal organization.
